In a significant stride towards enhancing trade and logistics capabilities in the Philippines, Subic Bay International Terminals (SBITC), in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), the Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Subic, and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), organized a forum titled "Container Shipping In North Luzon: Global Reach Through Subic." Held at the SMX Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga on 10 August, the event gathered a diverse congregation of industry stakeholders and experts.
The forum marked a milestone for the North Luzon region, highlighting the potential of Subic port as a strategic gateway for import and export activities. The forum showcased the port's versatility, connectivity and sustainability.
The series of presentations kicked off with Mary Jean Pacheco, DTI Supply Chain & Logistics Assistant Secretary, delivering a presentation on government initiatives to enhance the logistics landscape in the Philippines. Ms. Pacheco's insights showcased the seamless integration of public and private sectors to streamline trade operations and facilitate smoother cargo movement.
Justin Tolentino, SBITC President and Chief Executive Officer, in his address, reaffirmed SBITC's commitment to future-proofing North and Central Luzon's trade gateway. He outlined the sustainability developments and initiatives spearheaded by SBITC to ensure that the Port of Subic continues to be an efficient and high-performing gateway for global trade. Highlighting strong connectivity options, including barge and truck, Mr. Tolentino underlined the port's role in bolstering the region's import and export capabilities.
Emmanuel "Loy" Cortero, PEZA Zone Administrator for Region 3, delved into the port's significance for PEZA locators. He outlined comprehensive plans to leverage Subic port's facilities to bolster PEZA's operations, thus creating a conducive environment for economic growth and development in the region.
Brigida T. Pili, DTI Region 3 Regional Director – Officer in Charge, provided a comprehensive update on the plans and the manifold benefits of using the Port of Subic. Her presentation resonated with the collaborative spirit of public and private entities, united in their endeavor to harness the port's potential for the greater good.
The forum was graced by special guests from the SBMA Seaport and BOC Subic, further underscoring the interplay of governmental agencies in driving trade and economic progress. Notable figures such as Atty. Marietta D Zamorano, BOC Deputy Collector for Assessment; and Lino A. Mazon, Chief of Transshipment Unit; Maria Cristina Pineda, SBMA Head of Terminal Operations division; Edna E. Remot SBMA Executive Assistant to the General Manager; Charo Peñaflor SBMA Head of Processing Branch, Port Management Division, shared their perspectives and offered a holistic view of Subic port's role in the larger economic landscape.
Shipping lines also took the opportunity to showcase their services at the forum. Industry giants like Maersk, Wan Hai Lines, MSC, ONE, CMA CGM, COSCO, SITC, TS Lines, PIL, and were present, Emirates Shipping Line, exemplifying their commitment to harnessing Subic Port's capabilities.
